Line Vautrin (1913-1997)
Talosel earrings
Resin and mirrored glass
France, c. 1960s
One of Vautrin’s most celebrated innovations, Talosel- a material she developed and patented, serves as the foundation for these tiered mobile earrings. Layers of hand-manipulated cellulose acetate are built up and sacrificed to produce a surface texture that plays dynamically with light, revealing subtle variations in tone and depth.
Vautrin herself called her creations “sorcerer’s glass,” drawing inspiration from alchemical processes of fire, liquification, and recomposition. Each piece in Talosel is unique; its signature variations in resin and texture are immediately recognizable, rendering these earrings not merely jewelry, but intense, wearable works of art.
